Kaspersky and Umniah Cyber Security Academy to empower Jordanian women in cybersecurity
Umniah Cyber Security Academy and Kaspersky have joined forces to organize and conduct training sessions for women participating in the SHETECHS initiative. The initiative is aimed at integrating businesswoman into the ICT sector.
The workshops took place in Amman on the 24th and 25th and in Karak on 26th and 27th of November. During these sessions, the students will be given a thorough rundown on the major cybersecurity trends. The course also teaches them about the main domains of cybersecurity such as Digital Forensics, Advanced Persistent Threats (APT), Threat Hunting, Network and Endpoint Security.
Amir Kanaan, Managing Director for Middle East, Turkey and Africa at Kaspersky said, Kaspersky is committed towards contributing to the Information and Communications Technology Association of Jordan by providing women with enhanced technology tools to leverage in their businesses. These workshops are the first of many positive steps that we can take towards improving workplace ratios and intake percentages for women in cybersecurity. Together with our partner Umniah Cyber Security Academy, we can empower women with the necessary information and skills to boldly take on job roles in cyber security.
The students had the opportunity to put into practice everything they’ve learnt, through hands-on exercises and demonstrations. To further enhance their knowledge, students participated in the Kaspersky Interactive Protection Simulation (KIPS) which uses a board game structure and combines technology with physical materials. The game mimics a business environment exposed to cyber threats. Students were challenged to make an informed decision to mitigate these risks thus, preparing them with the expertise needed to be able to tackle similar issues in real-world situations.
Amjad Farouqa, Executive Director of Quality Assurance at Umniah said, These workshops will help us to understand the challenges women face and will also help us to provide them with what they need to occupy better positions in the ICT industry. We are proud to be able to assist Kaspersky in this endeavor to include more women in the technology industry Jordan and the region at large.
Umniah Cyber Security Academy has organized these workshops and jointly with Kaspersky will continue to deliver similar trainings to various educational institutions across Jordan next year as well.
