Kaspersky collaborates with universities in Spain to promote talents in cybersecurity

As part of its commitment to the educational and student community and the promotion of the world of cybersecurity through support for young talents, Kaspersky organizes CyberDays again in Spain. Within the framework of the Kaspersky Academy initiative, these meetings offer universities an opportunity for their students to delve into cybersecurity.

For the moment, the company has closed events with the University Polytechnica de Madrid, the University Carlos III de Madrid, the University of Leon, as well as the Autonomous University of Barcelona. CyberDays were held in the mentioned universities on 4th, 5th, 6th and 10th of March. These are free technical seminars for university degree students related to New Technologies (IT, Telecommunications or similar). In them, students can catch up on the current and future panorama of cyber threats with the help of Kaspersky’s team of cybersecurity researchers from GreAT, as well as representatives of Kaspersky Innovation hub, and participate in interactive workshops where, through gaming techniques, a cyber attack is simulated, so that students can put cyber defense techniques into practice.

These types of events are designed to complement the training of students, providing them with knowledge about threats so that they can dive deeper into the subject, in addition to promoting their security awareness. Kaspersky plans to incorporate more Spanish universities into the initiative throughout 2020.

From the University Polytechnica de Madrid, the director of the UPM Master in Cybersecurity, Professor Víctor A. Villagrá, highlights the value that this type of event has for its students. “On the one hand, the conferences with participation of cybersecurity researchers from Kaspersky (GreAT) allow students to know the day-to-day of the real threats that are happening worldwide, and how these can be detected and treated, strengthening the knowledge that they have acquired in their university training in this area. On the other hand, the interactive games-based Cybersecurity workshops have excited the students, who have to put into practice different situations in the area of Cybersecurity and make decisions simulating real scenarios. The students claim to have learned new aspects with this type of techniques and value them very positively ”.

"We are delighted to be able to collaborate with the university world. We believe in the importance of continuing to promote awareness and contribute to the development of a talent community in cybersecurity, “says Alfonso Ramírez, CEO of Kaspersky Iberia. “We want to encourage young people to enter the cybersecurity industry and therefore we promote knowledge in this field, allowing students to broaden their cybersecurity skills.”
