Kaspersky lectures SUTD on "Botnets as a Threat to Your Network"

SUTD ISTD Pillar runs signature COnversation with Industry Leaders (COIL) Seminar Series every term.

In close cooperation with industry partners and course faculty to organise this seminar during course terms to give the students a wider perspective of the topics learnt in school and how it is being applied in the real-world. As the sponsor for the Kaspersky Lab Network Security course merit award, Kaspersky nominates a speaker to give a guest lecture for our CSD students from the Network Security course. In 2022 Vitaly Kamluk, Head of Kaspersky Research Center, APAC gave a lecture on “Botnets as a Threat to Your Network”.

This talk focused on a botnet problem for network security teams. It covered the history of botnets as a phenomena, explained botnets classification, factors of growth, ways to use that in cyber-extortion, political, criminal financial operations among others. The topic also covered examples approaches to fight the botnet threat, examples of past anti botnet operations including joint operations with Interpol.

Vitaly Kamluk is Principal Security Researcher with Kaspersky. He has 17 years of work experience as a security researcher, with 2 years spent at Interpol as a cybersecurity expert. He started Anti-Botnet research group at Kaspersky back in 2008 and presented about botnet threats at specialized conferences in the past. Vitaly is based in Singapore and is currently leading a team of APAC researchers specializing in advanced targeted attacks investigations.
